RESCUE volunteers were called to help an 81-year-old hiker who fell near the summit of Roseberry Topping, suffering head injuries.
Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) were called to help the man, from Thornaby, who had fallen three-quarters of the way up to the summit of the iconic peak near the North Yorkshire and Cleveland border.
The team were called out at 2.30pm on Monday (October 16) to help the walker, who had suffered head injuries. He had been initially treated at the scene by two passing nurses from the York area and a Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedic.
The rescue team managed to get their vehicles fairly close to the incident site and quickly carried the injured man to one of their Land Rovers, which drove him to a waiting ambulance nearby at Aireyholme Farm near Great Ayton
It was the 49th call out for the rescue team this year.
