IT is great to know that so many other people share Memories’ fascination with old cast iron street furniture, particularly drain covers.
Last week we featured a couple more local drains but they are all trumped by this one sent in by Marjorie Bullen of Darlington, which she spotted in another newspaper.
This knife, fork and spoon drain cover was spotted in the fantastically-named village of Upton Snodsbury in Worcestershire. And then we are grateful to Brian Coote for sending in a snap from his holiday in Croatia of a Dubrovnik manhole cover.
It is true that continental municipal authorities do manhole covers far better than their British counterparts – the Memories’ holiday albums are full of great pictures of ornate Spanish ironwork.
However, for these local pages, we should probably confine ourselves to local manholes.
Are there any interesting ones in your neighbourhood?
