A COUNTY Durham man has been sent to prison after being caught drink driving in Scotland.

Harley Goundry appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court, in Shetland, on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to driving a car on the B9074 in Scalloway, in April while four-and-a-half times the legal limit.

The court heard that Goundry, of Granville Terrace, Binchester, Bishop Auckland, had accumulated three drink driving offences within months.

According to The Shetland News, defence solicitor Tommy Allan told the court that his client has issues with alcohol more than committing crime.

But Sheriff Philip Mann said he had no choice but to send the 28-year-old to prison and handed him a seven-month sentence for his latest offence.

He also disqualified him from driving for ten years.

Previous incidents involved a ban and fine after Goundry crashed his car on the B9073 between the Black Gate junction and Scalloway, in December 2016.

No one else was injured during the incident.
