PLANS to convert an unused piece of land into a site for selling cars has been submitted to Durham County Council.

Philip Golightly, of Tudor Grange, Tudhoe, hopes to use the land in front of his P J Golightly garage for displaying cars for sale and additional parking for the business.

The land is currently owned by Durham County Council but had been used before for the same purpose.

Mr Golightly submitted the application in July for the site in Front Street.

If the plans are approved, up to ten cars would be parked on the site during the garage's business' hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

In his application, Mr Golightly said he wanted to purchase the site for the business but would be happy to accept conditions on it.

He also said he does not intend to erect lighting or fell any trees surrounding it.

A statement said: " The applicant would be happy with a planning condition restricting the display of vehicles to the land edged red and other parts of the private Tudor Garage site."
