A PEDESTRIAN who died after being hit by a car near Darlington at the weekend has been named.
He was Patrick Schaible, from Headlam.
The 21-year-old was hit by a Renault Clio at Summerhouses, near Darlington, at about 6.40am on Saturday.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the B6279 road was closed for several hours as collision investigators carried out their work.
The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
