A MAN accused of raping a woman in Darlington is expected to appear in court today to face trial.
Abdel-Aziz Faysal Al-Shamary, of Pensbury Street, Darlington, was due at Teesside Crown Court.
The 21-year-old is charged with rape, attempted rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charges relate to an attack on a 38-year-old woman on a grassed embankment off St Augustine’s Way – just behind the Halfords store and near to the River Skerne on the outskirts of Darlington town centre.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was attacked shortly after midnight on Wednesday, May 17.
The trial - expected to last five days - was due to be heard by Judge Sean Morris.
