A VARIETY of fun and games have been organised to mark the 35th anniversary of the Dolphin Centre.

The Darlington leisure centre, which was officially opened on November 2, 1982, has attracted millions of visitors over the years including some from as far afield as America, South Africa, New Zealand, mainland Europe and Australia.

To mark the special anniversary a series of events will be held throughout October which will include competitions for local schools and colleges, a celebration gym challenge, Swim4Life roadshow, school swimming party week, tea dance and a host of discounts and free offers for people to use.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and the local environment, said: “When it was created the Dolphin Centre was one of the largest leisure centres in the North of England and still boasts an impressive range of facilities for the residents of Darlington and visitors to enjoy.

“We boast more than a million visits to the centre every year and we hope to see many old and new faces as we celebrate this special anniversary.”

During the half term school holidays the centre will host a daily Diving Camp, 8-10am and Pool Parties, 1.30pm-3.30pm, Monday to Friday 23-27 as well as a series of Sunday Fun Days 9am-4pm starting on October 22.

There will be a special 80s-themed Party Weekend on November 4 and 5 with fancy dress, celebration cake, prizes, competitions, music and entertainment.
