GENEROUS schoolchildren have donated £100 to their village's running club after holding a family fun day.

Staff and pupils at Evenwood CofE Primary School, in Evenwood, Teesdale, pulled out all the stops to put on the fundraiser in June in a bid to raise funds for a new climbing frame.

During the event, which raised £1,000 in total, they also took part in a sponsored run in honour of the Evenwood Road Runners and many of the students are members of its junior section.

And in a celebration assembly on September 29, the pupils presented a cheque to the club's representatives.

Representatives Samantha Tucker and Andrew Laybourne accepted the cheque on behalf of the club.

The assembly was well attended by family and community members who also stayed to enjoy tea and cake in support of Macmillan Cancer Research.

Fun day organiser, Jill Swinbank, praised everyone for their hard work.
