BEER-lovers are in for a treat as volunteers from the Campaign for Real Ale bring the Richmond Ale Festival to the town for the 16th time.

More than 30 traditionally-made beers and ciders will be on tap at the event, which takes place on October 13 and 14 at Richmondshire Cricket Club, on the edge of the town centre.

Free to enter, it will provide a showcase for craft-brewed products from local Yorkshire breweries and others from further afield, as well as farm-brewed ciders from across the country.

“Camra’s aim is to support and promote beers and ciders created in time-honoured, traditional methods,” said Vince Rutland, one of the organisers.

“We’ll have beer styles ranging from bitters to golden ales, stouts to hoppy IPAs and even Belgian beers flavoured with fruit - not to mention some delicious ciders and perry, which is made from pears. All are produced by skilled craftspeople, using the best quality ingredients.

“But there’s a lot more to a beer festival than simply trying out the drinks.

“We’ll also have music from great local band the Spirit Levellers on Saturday evening and Latest Flames from Cumbria on Friday, a quiz at Saturday teatime and a variety of games to play to suit all ages."

The festival will run from 5pm to 11pm on Friday and noon to 11pm on Saturday.
