A GRANDMOTHER who has raised more than £9,000 for charity after being hit with a stroke and cancer is holding a fundraising event.
Christine Sewell, from Sherburn Village, has been raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support since being diagnosed with the disease in 2012, just a year after suffering from a stroke.
Mrs Sewell, 69, who has just started volunteering with the charity, said: “They gave me the help I needed which is why I do all of this now.”
The event at Sherburn Village Club takes place on Friday, October 20, from 7.30pm and includes music from Rob Slater’s 60 piece, the Choir that Rocks and Pittington Brass Band.
Tony “The Roman” Jose will also make an appearance and there will be a raffle, tombola and food.
Tickets are £5 from the club or from Mrs Sewell by calling 0191-597 9233.
