RIDERS battled the elements in the latest Cleveland Wheelers Open Hillclimb.
The event took place on Sunday with 47 riders, including two tandems, from clubs across the region venturing out in less than ideal conditions to tackle the 1.7 mile climb from Great Broughton to the top of Clay Bank.
Proceedings were dominated by a strong bunch of up-and-coming juniors, who claimed the top three positions.
Manilla Cycling's Adam Jarps beat Adept Precision's Ross Turner by just two seconds to win in a time of 6:11, with Aaron Preston of Brother NRG Wattshop coming in third.
The top female rider was Abi Smith of Clifton CC, York in a time of 7:55 - a remarkable achievement as she was riding in the juvenile (U16) category.
In the highly competitive veterans category, Shaun Tyson of Adept Precision gave the youngsters a run for their money, winning the category with a time of 6:23.
Finally, the male juvenile prize went to Lewis Dobbing of Brother NRG Wattshop with a time of 7:02.
