FOOTBALLERS across the region have benefitted from the generosity of Taylor Wimpey North Yorkshire this season.

Amongst those to receive a cash boost from the housebuilder is Guisborough Town FC which used the donation to purchase new jackets for the entire U9 Reds team.

Daniel McBride, head coach of Guisborough Town FC U9 Reds, said: “When the boys are dressed like professional footballers they play like them and team morale is at an all-time high. We hope the new jackets bring us luck and would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for its generosity.”

Meanwhile, St Marys College FC – founded in 1947 by ex-pupils of St Marys College, in Middlesbrough – is marking its 70th anniversary with a rebrand, thanks to a donation of £800 which will go towards equipment and team wear sporting its new club name: St Marys 1947 FC.

“The 2017/18 season will mark 70 years since the club was formed and we wanted to mark this momentous year with a new name and branding,” said team manager Tony Wilson. “We wanted the club name to incorporate our year of initiation as it is something we’re very proud of. Keeping a club alive at grassroots level for so long with little funding is always difficult.

“We’re delighted to have the support of a partner like Taylor Wimpey who, like St Marys, has a long-established history and local presence in Teesside.”

New Marske Junior Football Club is another local team with a new kit thanks to a £200 donation from Taylor Wimpey. The cash boost will purchase new kits for the club’s newly-formed U10s girls team for the 2017/18 season.

Simon Whitwell, the club’s secretary, said: “We brought together a group of girls to form an U10s team by liaising with local primary schools. This generous donation will go towards helping us to set the team up by purchasing kits and first aid accessories, so it has been very gratefully received.”

New Marske Junior Football Club, in Skelton, has teams ranging from U7s to U16s playing in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance League, allowing it to provide quality football development to children of all abilities in a fun and safe environment.

In the case of Old Malton St Mary’s Football Club, it was the U16 team that scored a new kit thanks a £500 donation from Taylor Wimpey.

Marcus Lee, the U16s manager, said: “We’re thrilled with this donation from Taylor Wimpey. It means a lot to the team, which has been playing together for over seven years. The new strip looks great and the team is really excited. Having professional-looking kits has really given them a boost for this new season.”

Old Malton St Mary’s FC was established in 1906 and has a thriving junior section with around 80 youngsters from the area playing across six age groups. The club also has two senior teams, including the first team which won the North Riding County FA County Cup last season.
