DETECTIVES trying to trace a one-punch attacker who knocked out a teenager celebrating his A-level results have released a CCTV image of a suspect.

The 18-year-old was knocked to the ground during a night out in Consett, County Durham, during the summer.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday, August 18, on Front Street on the pavement between Union and Chaplains.

Security cameras in the town centre recorded the attack and now police are hoping to trace a man who appears in relation to the incident.

Officers were also trying to trace a woman who is believed to have been a witness. Police say she has now come forward and is helping with enquiries.

The young man, who was hurt, now 19, was kept in hospital overnight after the attack.

Inspector Keith Wardle, from Consett Police, said: “It was a nasty assault of someone who has been out celebrating his A-level results.

“Police are keen to identify any witnesses who were out that night or have witnessed the assault.

“Some of these one punch attacks have turned out to have dire consequences so we would like anyone with information to come forward.”
