A PETROL station toilets which was decorated with real penny coins has won a national award.
The toilets at Sadberge Service Station, near Darlington, won ‘Loo of the Year’ at the Forecourt Awards 2017, described as the most prestigious event in the UK petrol retailing industry calendar.
Local artist Terry Kneeshaw was commissioned to carry out the design for the toilets on the theme of spending a penny.
He christened the toilets as the 'Loo-uvre'.
The station, on the A66, was opened earlier this year by operator Penny Petroleum.
The aim of the toilet design was to create a synergy with the name Penny Petroleum and make the toilets a more attractive place.
The concept has since been used elsewhere at sites managed by the Northumberland-based firm.
