A COMPLEX project to dismantle and recycle a gigantic 24,200-tonne oil rig is set to benefit charities in the North-East.
The Brent Delta platform arrived for decommissioning in Hartlepool's Able Seaton Port facility in May after the rig reached the end of its lifespan.
As part of the 12-month process, a range of supplies, including food and bedding, have been removed from the structure and donated to charitable organisations.
The Hartlepool Foodbank has received around one and half tonnes of stock recovered from the rig, while other items including mattresses, towels, fridges and cutlery have been donated to the North East Homeless and the Old Park Farm Kennels.
Brent Delta stood for 40 years in the Brent oil field to the north-east of the Shetland Islands.
