RUNNERS are preparing to take part in a testing and scenic course set in the market town of Richmond.

Swaledale Runners Richmond Castle 10K takes competitors on a challenging course which passes the River Swale, waterfalls and finishes at the historic Richmond Castle.

Stuart Parsons, Richmond mayor, who will be in attendance, said: “I will be setting off the runners, meeting them at the finish line and awarding the winners.

“It is a tough run as Richmond is full of hills so it is a physical course compared to other races.

“People take pleasure in running on roads they are familiar with and it is great to see so many support the event each year.”

Prizes are awarded to the first five men and women as well as the winners of the ten different age categories.

The course record for both men and women was set in 2014 when Tadele Mulugeta ran the course in 32.12 and Sarah Tunstall stopped the clock at 37.51.

The run is held on Sunday, October 8 at 11am and prices are £12.50 for club runners and £14.50 for non-club runners.
