PEOPLE in North Yorkshire are being e4ncouraged to rethink their bathroom regime to support Recycle Week from September 25 to October 1.

Research shows only 52 per cent of bathroom items go in the recycling bin in UK homes - and if everyone in North Yorkshire recycled one more deodorant spray, enough energy would be saved to power a typical primary school for eight weeks.

Now the county council is teaming up with Recycle Now to encourage residents to recycle bathroom items like empty deodorants and finished-with fragrances.

Executive member for waste management Andrew Lee said: “We’re asking residents to rethink their bathroom routines by demonstrating that what goes around comes around.

"Aerosols such as deodorants and hair sprays can be recycled again and again without any loss in quality, so you may see them come back as parts of your mobile phone, dishwasher or even another aerosol can.”
