A NORTH Yorkshire woman whose husband has been diagnosed with dementia has organised a memory walk to raise money for a charity.

Since her husband’s diagnosis, Beryl Larder, from Northallerton, says many aspects of her life have been changed. It has motivated her to make a positive difference and now she is organising her own Memory Walk for the second year in a row.

Last year’s event raised more than £2,500 for Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity.

Beryl said: “Most of us know someone who has, or had, this life-changing illness.

"People affected by dementia really need the support of others. This is where Alzheimer's Society can help, but they need money to fund research and their amazing services.

"Please walk for my husband and for those you know affected by dementia on 8th October.”

Linda Haggie, Alzheimer’s Society services manager for Hambleton and Richmondshire, said: “It is fantastic that Beryl is supporting Memory Walk for the second year running.

"There are an estimated 1,500 people living with dementia in Hambleton. This Memory Walk will not only raise funds that directly benefit the area, but it will also raise awareness and unite the community in supporting people affected by dementia.”

To sign up to the walk email; beryl.larder@mypostoffice.co.uk by October 1 to register and you will receive full details of the event, as well as the two possible routes of either 2.5km or 10km.

Walkers are asked to meet in the Mowbray Ballroom at the Golden Lion Hotel, Northallerton at 10AM to sign in and start the walk. The Golden Lion is kindly supporting the walk for the second year running. Harrogate Spring Water is also supporting the event by donating bottled water for all walkers.
