RYDER CUP star Ian Poulter is the latest big name to be added to the field for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at Close House next week.

Poulter will join tournament host Lee Westwood, Masters Champion Sergio Garcia and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy in the impressive line-up for the European Tour event.

He memorably hosted the British Masters at Woburn in 2015 when the tournament made a hugely successful return to the European Tour schedule after a seven year absence.

After an injury-hit 2016 campaign, the Englishman has been climbing back up the world rankings this season, making the cut in all ten of his appearances so far on the European Tour.

He also finished joint runner up in the Players Championship on the US PGA Tour in May and impressed on British soil over the summer, finishing tied ninth in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open before sharing 11th place in The Open at Royal Birkdale.

The 12-time European Tour winner is a three-time runner up in the British Masters – in 2002 and 2003 and, most recently, behind Westwood at The Belfry in 2007.

“I’m really looking forward to coming back to Britain next week and playing in the British Masters again,” said Poulter. “It’s a tournament I’ve always enjoyed and I’ve played well in it too, so hopefully that will continue at Close House.

“I enjoyed hosting the tournament a couple of years ago and Lee has done a great job this time round, with a really strong field, so it should be a great week.

“I had some good performances over the summer, including on British soil, and the game has mostly felt pretty good this year. Clearly I’d love to get a win before the season finishes and the British Masters would obviously be a special place for it to happen.”

Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, Scotland’s Russell Knox and Ireland’s Shane Lowry have also been confirmed as part of the line-up at Close House, while defending champion Alex Noren, two-time Major Champion Martin Kaymer and British stars Ross Fisher, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Danny Willett and Chris Wood have previously confirmed for next week’s tournament.
