A CYCLIST has been left with life-threatening injuries following a collision with a car.
Police in South Tyneside are appealing for information after the accident in Hebburn.
At around 6.10pm this evening police received a report of a collision between a car and an cyclist on the junction between Victoria Road West and Mill Crescent in the town.
Emergency services attended and the male cyclist has been taken to hospital with what police described as "serious, life-threatening injuries".
A spokesman for Northumrbia Police said: "The driver of the white Seat Ibiza vehicle has not been injured but left very shaken by the collision.
"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police."
The road currently remains closed to allow officers to investigate the collision and is not expected to open until later this evening.
Any witnesses are being asked to call 101 quoting log 892 19/09/17.
