A PROVISIONAL trial date has been fixed for man accused of attempted murder after a house fire.

Daniel McCardle, 27, was charged after a man was taken to hospital with serious burns following the blaze at Magdalene Place, Ferryhill, County Durham, on July 29.

Mr McCardle, of Coxon Street, Hendon, Sunderland, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court today via video link with HMP Durham.

He did not enter a plea to the attempted murder charge, but will be back in court for a further hearing on October 9.

The provisional trial has been listed for February 12 next year.

Judge Neil Davey QC remanded him into custody.
