A MAN and woman arrested following a stabbing on a train bound for Teesside have been released under investigation.

Passengers were evacuated from the Northern Rail Hexham to Nunthorpe train after a man was stabbed on Friday.

The 2.45pm train was stopped at Billingham station at around 4.30pm as emergency services rushed to the scene.

The victim was taken to the major trauma unit at Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital and was discharged over the weekend.

Train services were significantly disrupted as a result of the attack while a man and a woman were arrested by the British Transport Police soon after.

A spokesman for BTP confirmed today that the pair had been released on bail pending further investigation.
