A MAN will be sentenced next week after admitting a series of offences arising from a violent outburst near his own home.

Christopher James Nicholson put in guilty pleas on his first appearance in the case at Durham Crown Court, just weeks after the incident.

Appearing via video link from nearby Durham Prison, the 36-year-old defendant, of Guthrum Place, Newton Aycliffe, admitted unlawful wounding, possessing a bladed article, damaging property and causing an affray.

All the offences were committed in Guthrum Place, on Thursday August 17, and involved the same injured party.

The court heard that the bladed article carried by Nicholson was a bread knife, while the damage was to four tyres on the attack victim’s Vauxhall Passat car.

Following his guilty pleas, Nicholson’s barrister, Ian West, told the court: “He understands a custodial sentence will follow and he wishes to know his fate.

“There is no need or reason to trouble the Probation Service by asking for a pre-sentence report to be prepared in this case.”

But prosecutor Chris Baker said the victim had not let it be known if he wanted to submit an impact statement to the court.

Recorder Peter Makepeace, therefore, adjourned sentence until next Friday.
