A CAR sales and repairs centre could be replaced with a petrol station and convenience store if plans are approved.

James Hall & Co is seeking permission to demolish Park View Garage in Low Willington and replace it with a Spar store and petrol station, complete with tanks, pumps, canopy, ATM and car parking.

The 0.2 hectare site, which has been previously used as a petrol station, is located on the A690. Plans for housing were approved in 2003 and 2008, but these permissions have lapsed and the site has remained as a garage.

The new application would see the Spar shop and petrol station kiosk to the east of the site. The store would be open from 6am to 11pm, seven days per week. Access points from the A690 will continued to be used and improved.

One resident has raised concerns about the position of the development and potential impact on access to his property. He also questioned why empty buildings nearby could not be developed instead.

In the planning statement, the applicant said the scheme would improve the appearance of the site, adding: “The store and petrol filling station will occupy a site that can provide for an unmet a local convenience and fuel offer.”

The decision is expected to be made before Tuesday, October 3.
