A CAMPAIGN encouraging residents to find out their blood pressure has stated that thousands of people living in Darlington are at increased risk of having strokes between the ages of 25 and 64.
Figures released as part of the Blood Pressure UK Know Your Numbers awareness week have revealed that around 23,100 people living in the town have high blood pressure, however almost half are undiagnosed.
Reports produced by the charity highlighted that strokes caused by high blood pressure are on the rise and cause around 60 per cent of all strokes.
The charity launches its campaign between September 18 and September 24 in a bid to encourage residents to be tested and learn how to manage the health problem.
Associate professor Jamie Waterall, Public Health England lead for cardiovascular disease prevention, said: “High blood pressure is the third biggest cause of early death and ill health in England.
“This is why it’s so important to know our numbers, it is arguably one of the most important numbers we should know as adults."
