THE plans for the proposed developments to transform Darlington into a railway heritage centre will draw in an additional £26m in visitors’ spending (Echo, Sept 6).

That’s more than £71,200 per day, every day including Sundays, come rain or shine.

If every adult and child spends say £30 on museum admission tickets, car parking, lunch and a souvenir, that suggests that there will be more than 2,400 visitors drawn in by the railway heritage features every single day of the year.

As the birthplace of public railways, Darlington deserves this national recognition and I wish the town and the railway centres every success.

But are these figures credible?
