PLANS have been submitted to convert a former Methodist chapel into a family home.
Frosterley Methodist Chapel in Bridge End, near Frosterley, has been vacant for more than a year following its closure due to falling congregation numbers.
But now plans have been drawn up to transform the two-storey 19th century building and caretaker’s flat into a private home.
The applicant, Stephanie Marriott, intends to convert the ground floor into four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a utility and games room, with the main chapel area on the first floor to remain open plan and used as a living, dining and kitchen area.
Stained glass windows will remain in place and will be fully restored using traditional glass where possible.
Comments on the application can be made online at durham.gov.uk until tomorrow.
