PLANS for a temporary car park at a popular festive event have been submitted to Durham County Council.
Weardale Railway Community Interest Company have submitted the plans for the facility to accommodate visitors to this year's Polar Express, which will be held from November 1 to January 15, 2018. The car park, if approved, will be based at Bondisle Playing Field, off Bondisle Way, in Stanhope.
A total of 94 extra spaces would be provided, which would add to the existing 180 already in place.
A statement in support of the application said the operating times would be from 10am until 10pm "in the worst case" and the car park would provide enough space to cover visitors for two Polar Express Trains.
Portable self-contained lighting would also be used from 3.30pm each day with work to start from October 15, if approved.
