FOUR books of stunning old views of Yorkshire have just been compiled by local historian Paul Chrystal. They take his tally of local books to more than 100 – appropriate, then, that he used to run Knaresborough Book Shop.

Here is a selection of pictures of northern Yorkshire taken from the books.

The first book is entitled Old Yorkshire Country Life, which looks at the rural ways of the county (pictures from it are captioned "Country"). Yorkshire's Days of Steam, tells of railways and docks (captioned "Steam"). Wheels Around Yorkshire shows cars, charabancs, lorries, bikes and paddlesteamers (captioned "Wheels"), and, finally, Old Redcar and Coatham, which obviously tells of the county's north-east coast (and is captioned "Redcar").

All are published by Stenlake of Scotland (website: stenlake.co.uk) and cost £10 from bookshops.
