A DARLINGTON restaurant worker is set to be sentenced for his role in a sex grooming ring.

Mohibur Rahman worked in several restaurants around the region including ones in Darlington.

Today, he appeared at Newcastle Crown Court where is due to be sentence over three charges of supplying Mephedrone commonly known as M-Kat, two of allowing his addresses to be used for supply of M-Kat and one of conspiracy to incite prostitution for gain.

The court heard Rahman had also been previously convicted for a racially aggravated offence.

Upon being arrested for that, he was put into cells and became aggressive, hurling racial abuse at a female police officer, calling her a "white whore".

During a police interview in relation to Operation Shelter he told officers he would punch the girls who made allegations against him.

Rahman, who is from Bangladesh, also said: "You cannot control your white kids, that's what I see in this country."

While living at Rahman's house, a young girl was raped by another member of the grooming ring, Habibur Rahim, who was jailed for 29 years today.

In a victim impact statement, she said she had believed Rahman and Rahim were her friends and that their actions had left her suicidal.

She said: "My life is awful, I keep wanting to take my own life to get away from it all and to get some peace from it.

"I wake in the night screaming thinking he is my flat, I sleep with a knife by my bed."

The case is continuing.
