A NEWTON Aycliffe secondary school has bid two long-serving teachers farewell.

Greenfield Community College, which opens its doors this week for the autumn term, said goodbye to two members of staff ahead of the summer break who both joined in 1990.

Head of school Chris Stonehouse came to the school 27 years ago and was described has having been an “integral part of the leadership team” during the last 14 years.

She began her career at the school as a history teacher and is now looking forward to a full-time career move.

Meanwhile assistant headteacher Jacqui Gibbs also announced her departure in July.

She joined the school in 1990 as head of the English department and was described as having made a “wonderful contribution to both academic and extra-curricular activities”.

Ms Gibbs, who is retiring, recently set up a popular running club for staff and students.

Staff at Greenfield organised a special celebration send-off to say thank you for the dedication they have shown to Greenfield Community College.

David Priestley, executive headteacher, said: “Both members of staff are valued colleagues and have made a huge contribution to the life of our school, leaving a strong legacy that will ensure we can build a successful future.”
