A NORTH-EAST singer who was told by her neighbour to “be quiet” has wowed this year’s X Factor judges.

Shanaya Atkinson-Jones, of Newton Aycliffe, got a yes from all four judges after belting out Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera.

The 19-year-old, who was adopted at the age of three, said at her audition she sang all the time but added: "The other day I got told by the neighbour to shut the window and be quiet."

Her proud mum said she had a "rough time" before she and her dad adopted her but the teenager said: "They've done everything for me. They've made sure I've had the best life possible."

Her performance drew praise from last year's winner Matt Terry, who tweeted her named accompanied by a string of praise hands emojis.

Other viewers said they had been left in tears by her singing, with one writing: "@realshanayaa had me crying on tonight's #XFactor Such soul & passion in her voice. Damn girl."

Another wrote: "X Factor has got me so emotional! Crying my eyes out. Her voice was just amazing."

Others said they thought she would go far in the competition, with one writing: "Dammmmm girl you have my crying, you are seriously unreal looking forward to seeing you in late stages of #Xfactor.”

Another added: "@shanaya_jones' voice is everything. My heart just felt so much emotion, I'm crying. My new favourite to win."
