THE longest resident of a dog shelter is in need of a new home.
Deerness Kennels Rescue Centre, in Langley Moor, near Durham, is appealing for someone to give a permanent home to eight-year-old Alfie, who has been with them for more than six months.
Simon Donnelly, the chairman of Supporters of Stray and Abandoned Dogs (SoSAD), said: "He has been waiting for his wish to come true of finding a forever home with a loving family for well over six months now.
"He has had glowing reports from his foster mum and loves to play fetch but is quite strong and a little nervous around other dogs which can result in a grumble or a bark or two.
"He isn't keen on the kennel setting but loves to play in our 'centre barks' resources at the rescue centre."
Alfie will be among the dogs showcased at an event at the centre on Sunday, September 17.
The Waggy Tails Day Dog Show is on between 12-noon and 4pm at the centre in Mill Road.
