HE's only little, but he's got a big job to do.

Young Oliver Williams has been appointed as the first director of fun at Fairfax House in York – at the age of just five.

The attraction is regarded as one of the finest Georgian townhouses in England and Oliver, from nearby Strensall, will be giving staff a child's eye view as they plan activities for younger visitors.

His first job has been to raise awareness of Fairfax House as an attraction and to encourage families to visit.

He has also teamed up with the house’s children’s ambassador – townhouse mouse Gregory – to come up with the top three fun things for children to do there over the holidays, from following the Townhouse Mouse trail to solving the Mystery of the Missing Jewels and decoding secret messages on ceilings throughout the house.

Hannah Phillip, director of Fairfax House, said: “Young people are important visitors to the house and we are always delighted to see how enthused they are with our exhibits and displays on offer.

“By developing these engaging experiences and by appointing Oliver as director of fun, we hope to encourage even more families to take some time to visit us when they are in York.”
