A MAN has suffered a fractured skull after being hit over the head with a baseball bat.
The 23-year-old victim remains in hospital following the attack on Monday afternoon in a Gateshead street.
Police say they were called to reports of “an altercation” in Pensher Street in the Felling area of the town at around 3.50pm.
Emergency services attended and found that a man had suffered serious, but not life threatening, injuries to his head.
He remains in hospital in a stable condition where he is receiving treatment for a fractured skull.
The attacker, who is in his 30s or 40s and of large build, fled the area on foot. The only description of clothing was that he was wearing a blue shirt.
Any witnesses to the assault are asked to ring Northumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
