A WEEKEND blitz on anglers saw bailiffs net more than two dozen people for fisheries offences in North Yorkshire.
A total of 25 anglers out of 208 questioned were found to be in breach of rod licence legislation, an evasion rate of 12 per cent.
The operations were carried out by a multi-agency team made up of the county council, North Yorkshire Police and the Environment Agency.
An agency spokesperson said: “Our fisheries bailiffs work extremely hard at making sure fishing is fair for everyone.
“People who don’t buy a licence are not only cheating other anglers and the future of the sport but running the risk of criminal conviction and a fine.
"There's no excuse – it costs just £30 for a whole year."
