FOUR weeks of holiday activities and healthy eating culminated in a family fun day.
The event, at Jubilee Fields Community Centre in Shildon yesterday, marked the end of the Hungry Holidays project.
Funded by the Big Lottery, Livin, Northumbria University and the North-East Child Poverty Trust, the £14,000 scheme saw youngsters enjoy four days of fun and educational activities per week.
A chef from Bishop Auckland College also prepared tasty homemade lunches and healthy snacks for the youngsters, and led cookery lessons. Among the many dishes served up were haddock and salmon pasta bake mince pie and quiche.
There were also free weekly trips to nearby attractions and the seaside.
Project leader Charlie Haines said the scheme had been a great success and would hopefully be repeated in the town next summer.
