A DRIVER has been hospitalised with broken ribs after his car hit a lamp post and pedestrian barrier.

The 38-year-old behind the wheel of a Volvo S60 was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, following the incident.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the crash at around 6.05pm on Monday, August 7.

No one else is believed to have been injured in the incident.

Cleveland Police are now appealing for witnesses of the crash that happened on Flatts Lane, in the Normanby area of Middlesbrough, to come forward with information.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Any witnesses or members of the public who approached the scene at the time of the incident are asked to contact PC Sharon Smith from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number on 101, quoting event number 140904.”
