A MUCH-loved school governor was given a special send-off to thank her for ten years in the role.

Maureen Smith, chair of governors at Rossmere Primary School in Hartlepool, stood down at the end of the summer term and the school held an assembly to say goodbye.

Pupils from each year group paid tribute with songs, poems, banners, cards and pictures.

This was followed by a surprise afternoon team in the school attended by staff, governors and friends.

A former magistrate, Maureen also played a key role nationally to promote good governance in schools as a member of the National Governance Association Committee.

She said: "It has been an absolute privilege."
