A MOTORCYCLIST has been seriously injured after losing control and crashing into a traffic island.
The injured rider has been taken to hospital with serious head and chest injuries following this morning’s crash on the A182 Front Street in South Hetton.
The accident happened at 6.45am at the junction of Pinedale Drive and Front Street.
The rider was driving a Yamaha YZF motorcycle towards Easington when he lost control and collided with a keep left sign in the central island.
He was thrown from the vehicle and landed on the grass verge, suffering head and chest injuries. He was later taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
A section of the road was closed between Logan Terrace and Pinedale Drive while crash investigators examined the scene.
