THUNDERING hooves of Roman cavalry will be heard for the next five weeks along the length of Hadrian’s Wall.

Hadrian’s Cavalry is a unique exhibition across ten visitor attractions spread out across the length of the World Heritage Site which will run until September 10.

Exploring the daily life of the Roman Army’s soldiers on horseback, the exhibition includes helmets, armour and weapons on loan from around the world, along with reenactment groups bringing the past to life.

Bill Griffiths, from Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, said: “This is the first time many of the objects have been displayed at Hadrian’s Wall.

“The Roman cavalry were known for their striking helmets and armour and we have some of the best examples in the world”.

Special events are being held at Segedunum Roman Fort, Great North Museum: Hancock and Arbeia Roman Fort during August, with full details available at hadrianscavalry.co.uk.
