THE director of an ambulance firm has hit out at vandals who have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to its vehicles.

Ken Lumley, director of Medics UK, arrived at the company’s yard this morning to discover windows and doors of its ambulances had been smashed.

Oil had also been poured on some of the vehicles, and a hose pipe had been turned on and left running throughout the night.

Seven of Medics UK’s vehicles, which is based on Limerick Road in Redcar, were damaged, including two fast response vehicles.

Mr Lumley said: “I cannot understand why someone would do this – we are only a small company and we employ local people.

“It will cost us thousands of pounds to repair this – I am just at a total loss to why anybody would do this.

“We are here to help people – it just doesn’t make sense," he added.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police confirmed they had received reports of damage to vehicles on Limerick Road and they were investigating.

Medics UK is an independent ambulance service.
