A COURSE providing safe driver training for would-be motorists of the future starts in the North-East later this month.

The first Young Driver event takes place on a large, specially-designed course within the Makro store car park, on the Wear Industrial Estate, Washington, on Sunday August 13.

It offers anyone above the age of ten the chance to drive a car in a safe, but realistic environment.

Insurance company Admiral is launching the initial five monthly events, in a bid to help curb the higher than average accident rate among young newly qualified motorists.

It claims the rate of accidents in the first six months has dropped by more than a half, to fewer than one in ten, among the young people who have attended its courses at other venues.
