A MUSEUM is throwing open its doors for the school holidays with a fun-filled programme of trails, river beasties and workshops.
Killhope Lead Mining Museum in Upper Weardale, County Durham, is inviting families to immerse themselves in the life and work of the mining communities who breathed life into the area.
Children can follow in the tradition of the Victorian miners and create their own spar box full of glittering ‘bonny bits. The hour-long workshops are on Wednesday, August 9, and August 23, at 11.30am and 1.30pm, and cost £10.
Free, self-led River Beastie Hunt packs, meanwhile, guide children on an intriguing nature trail and contain containers for examining creepy-crawlies.
Clay play sessions will take place on Wednesday, August 2, and August 16, at 11.30am and 1.30pm, priced at £4.
Spaces are limited and booking is essential. Call 01388-537505. Killhope is offering free entry in August for children aged four to 16 years on Mondays, excluding the bank holiday.
