A DAY of music and family fun inspired by a popular nurse who died of cancer last March will raise money to help people affected by the disease.

The Smile4Claire charity event will remember 45-year-old mother of two Claire Shaw, of Byers Green, a respected research nurse who was secretary of St Mary's Junior Football Club, in Bishop Auckland.

Mrs Shaw’s husband Andrew and friends organise the event in aid of the Smile4Claire trust which was created in her memory and supports local charities and individuals affected by serious illness such as cancer.

Held at Bishop Auckland Cricket Club on Saturday, from 1pm until 9pm, it will feature music from local bands Oily Bum Print, The Thieves, Shewolf Project, Great Waves and The Giraffes on the main stage and acoustic sets by Jodie Fitzgibbon, Connor Hodgson, Aaron Smith, Chris Watkins and Chloe Nattrass.

Other attractions include hot food, beer tents, Police Interceptors a show by The Sandra Welsh Dance School and Carnival Funfairs.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for six to 16-year-olds and free to under fives and are on sale at The Pavilion, Spice Lounge, The Smokehouse, all Bishop Auckland, and The Top House at Coundon.
