ARTWORK created by a community club in Newton Aycliffe is on display in as part of a summer exhibition.

The collection of pieces by Neville Parade Art Club are being showcased to the public for six weeks at Newton Aycliffe Youth and Community Centre (NAYCC).

Run by Shelagh McFarlane, club members meet weekly at Neville Parade Methodist Church and work with specialist amateurs in every art form from sketching to oils.

NAYCC manager Beki Metcalfe said: “I was honoured when asked by Shelagh (to host the exhibition) and we had a blank wall that was in need of filling. I couldn’t think of a more perfect display."

The art enthusiasts come together on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3pm where they pay £2 per session, which includes a hot drink and a biscuit.

Ms Metcalfe added the group means more than art, it is also a group that meet for companionship.

They go on outings once a year with the next one planned for September 6 when they will be visiting York.

Launched on Monday this week, the exhibition includes a diverse range of works and will run until Friday, September 1.
