A BROTHER and sister have clocked up 100km between them to help out with fundraising for a new games area for their primary school.

Oscar and Zara Brown, who are both pupils at the Neville's Cross Primary School, Durham, took part in ten Park Runs as part of the fundraising efforts for a new multi-use games area (Muga).

The pair, who are from Bearpark, ran nine different courses around the North-East, finishing the challenge at their local event in Durham.

Six-year-old Oscar and Zara, 7, raised around £500, helping to bring the school's total to almost £50,000.

Headteacher Pam Monaghan said: “We are extremely proud of Zara and Oscar. They suggested this challenge and have been really committed at completing it before the end of the school term. They are great role models for other children and we’re very grateful for all of the support that they have received in their fundraising."

Dawn Brown, their mum, added: "We were inspired by some of the parents who swam the channel last year and some of the teachers who have been doing a Couch to 5K and they wanted to do something.

"We've been doing the junior park run and they like running to we came up with the challenge between us."

She added: "They have both run amazingly well every week of this challenge and are really pleased that they have been able to do something different to help their school. It has also been a great reason to visit all of the park runs in the area."

The school is trying to raise £60,000 for the Muga and parents leading the fundraising are trying to get as many children as possible involved in physical activity.
