THE appeal to bring new MRI scanners to two hospitals has received a £500 boost thanks to a Darlington school.

When Peter King, headteacher at The Federation of Mowden Schools, found out about the appeal he didn’t hesitate to get involved and organised a fun run involving children and their families raised money through collections and refreshment sales on the day.

Proceeds from selling programmes at two recent sports days have also been donated to the appeal – bringing the total to £500 to go towards the fundraising scheme run by the charity arm of the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr King, said: "The children have really enjoyed finding out about the new MRI scanners and have been very keen to do their bit to raise money for the appeal. The Mowden community recognises how important these scanners will be for the next generation and is keen to get the message out to all the people of the area. Our school fundraising events have also been great fun. I would urge all schools to get behind this brilliant initiative."
