A UNIQUE specialist sensory centre which provides a range of experiences for children and adults with learning disabilities has celebrated its first birthday.

Pendragon Multi-Sensory Centre in Northallerton provides support and respite to the lives of those with physical, mental and emotional difficulties and their families.

It is the only centre of its kind in the area and families travel from as far as Newcastle and Hull to take advantage of its sensory facilities.

“This is a momentous day in the history of Pendragon,” said one of the trustees, David Kerfoot.

“We have achieved so much in our first year and it has shown that the facility and services we are offering are so much needed and appreciated by our community.

"The commitment and support from families, staff and volunteers has been incredible.”

The centre based on the Omega Industrial Village, Thurston Road, has changed its opening hours and added in extra sessions to allow more people to visit in the summer school holidays.

The Pendragon charity is also on the lookout for more volunteers to help out at the centre, whether it can be for a couple of hours or a full day.
