A YOUNG girl aims to become one of the youngest to complete the Coast-to-Coast cycle ride.
Nine-year-old Millie Ottaway, from Chester-le-Street, hopes to complete the 135 miles from Workington to Tynemouth in three days.
With her dad Terry Ottaway, she hoped to raise money for Diabetes UK after her cousin was diagnosed with Type One diabetes.
She originally planned to raise £100, but has so far raised more than £800 for the charity.
Mr Ottaway said: “Millie has been really keen to do the C2C ever since she heard about it last year and she has been training hard.
“As a family we are quite active and do a lot of cycling but this is going to be a massive challenge for someone as young as her”.
“We have been surprised by the amazing response and very generous donations that we have received.
“Diabetes UK does amazing work and it’s great to be able to help raise money for a cause that is so close to us all.”
